Taste The Nomad Difference
So, what IS a SnoBall?
Summertime Americana
For centuries, people all over the world have consumed flavored shaved ice in one form or another. Whether snow brought down from mountain tops or blocks of ice shaved with hand scrapers, flavored by natural syrups or fruit juices, you can find variations that have stood the test of time.
Referred to as a “Snow Cone” by Texans today, the term comes from the Texas State Fair, where in the early 1900’s a ball of packed crushed ice doused in flavored sugar-water was served to fairgoers in a paper cone. Around the same time in south Louisiana the first patent was issued for a motorized block ice shaver and the New Orleans SnoBall was born.
There are two main differences between a SnoBall and a Snow Cone.
The first difference is the ice. By definition, a Snow Cone has granular ice molded into a ball that allows flavor to flow in between the granules, whereas a SnoBall has a fine fluffy texture that absorbs the syrup. The second is the syrup. Snow Cones are made with a lightly flavored and colored sugar water where SnoBalls are made to be overly flavorful, extra sweet, and juicy. We always say, “If you ain’t makin’ a mess, we ain’t makin’ it right!”
No matter what you call it, you can tell the difference between the two fairly easily by performing the “spoon trick”. Lightly rub the back side of your spoon up and down the top - if it turns into a smooth line, free of chunks of ice and sugar granules then you’ve got yourself a New Orleans Original SnoBall.

New Orleans Original SnoBalls with a Texas Twist
The SnoBall might have been born in New Orleans, but we are fine-tuning it right here in Texas.
We proudly serve our SnoBalls with Texas made Del Dixi pickles and homemade Blue Bell ice cream.
It’s the best of both worlds… or states in this case.
The Options Are Endless!
Make It Creamy
A New Orleans staple you can’t find anywhere else but right here at Nomad!
We mix a small amount of Evaporated Milk in with your flavor of choice to create a creamy combination that cuts the sweetness, making your SnoBall taste and feel more like an ice cream.
Find some of our most popular cream flavors on our Menu.
Stuff It
In New Orleans, you will find soft-serve ice cream inside the center of your SnoBall, but NOT here in Texas.
We fill the bottom of your cup up with SnoBall, put a heaping scoop of Blue Bell ice cream right in the middle and more SnoBall on top.
Flavors:
Homemade Vanilla or Dutch Chocolate
Top It
Keep it classic with sweetened condensed milk on top, or jazz it up by adding whip cream and sprinkles!
Sweet not your style? Add some sour spray and sour straws for an extra kick in the jaw! We have toppings for every taste.

Make It “To-Go”
